Museum of Fine Arts, Houston

Located in the heart of Houston’s Museum District, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston is a dynamic cultural complex comprising two gallery buildings, a sculpture garden, visitors center, library, movie theater, gift shop, café, two art schools, and two house museums. The general admission pass provides viewing of the MFAH art collections with more than 65,000 works from antiquity to the present.

General admission is free each Thursday courtesy of Shell. Admission is always free for children aged 12 or younger.

In the interest of public health and safety, and to comply with state and city reopening guidelines, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston is reopening its galleries to 25% capacity at this time. Entrance to the main campus has been directed to the Audrey Jones Beck Building (5601 Main Street). Face masks are required for all visitors older than the age of 2. Temperatures will be checked with a socially distanced reader for all visitors and any guests showing signs of illness at any time during their visit will be asked to return at a later date. Social distancing is required and will be enforced; parties may remain together and children must stay with adults at all times. MFAH will also be cleaning high-touch surfaces throughout the day and multiple hand-sanitizer units have been stationed throughout the various facilities. Coat check will not be available nor will large bags (more than 11x15 inches) be permitted; no baby backpacks or children on shoulders; soft front-facing carriers and strollers are allowed.

Founded in 1900, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston's collection numbers more than 65,000 works and embraces the art of antiquity to the present.

No Need to Pay General Admission If …

  • You are visiting on a Thursday, when general admission is free for everyone, courtesy of Shell. Ticketed exhibitions are separate from general admission and remain ticketed on Thursdays.
  • You are age 12 or younger. This age group receives free general admission every day.
  • You are age 18 or younger and visiting on a Saturday or Sunday with a library card from any public library in Texas. The library cardholder receives one free general admission; offer does not apply to ticketed exhibitions or events.
  • You are a visitor to the library, shop, or café.
  • You are a teacher visiting the Kinder Foundation Education Center in the Law Building.
  • You are a college student with an art-related assignment or attend an institution that participates in the University Partnership Program.


Museums on Us
Free General Admission for Bank of America Cardholders
  • Each Bank of America cardholder is allowed one free general admission to the MFAH as part of the Museums on Us customer benefit program, applicable to the first full weekend of each month.
  • Present a valid Bank of America/Merrill Lynch credit or debit card and photo ID at point of entry.
  • Admission is non-transferable and good for one free general admission for the cardholder only.
  • Offer does not include free admission to ticketed exhibitions or events.
  • Bank of America associates are also eligible for free general admission on designated Museums on Usweekends. Associates must present current proof of employment and photo ID.
